NEWEST STRAIN PROFILES
True Terpenes Isolates are natural, organic steam-distilled terpenes from various plant sources from around the world. They can be used individually to take advantage of each terpene’s unique effect or combined in different formulas for product development.
WHAT ARE TERPENES?
Terpenes are molecules in plants that create each plant’s unique smell and effects.
Terpenes are highly odorant hydrocarbon molecules. They are the primary molecules that give plant matter (i.e. flowers, fruits, leaves) its smell. It is thought that these compounds evolved in plants as a way to deter herbivores, or attract a given herbivore’s predators or parasites. Also terpenes may have evolved as a chemo-attractant for pollinators, including humans, so that the plant can ensure its procreation, evolution, and long term species survival.
HOW DO THEY WORK?
Terpenes’ odor are VERY strong and therefore it only takes a tiny bit to create a big smell.
Terpenes have very low vapor and boiling points allowing them to easily occupy the surrounding air. Due to their very high affinity for certain olfactory receptors, they are able to activate these receptors at low concentrations. Thus it takes very few molecules of terpenes to create a certain perception of smell in most mammals.
HOW CAN TERPENES BE USED?
Terpenes can be used in food, aromatherapy, perfumes and mixed with various herbs.
Terpenes are used heavily in perfume and food industries. As the majority of these compounds are produced naturally they are effective at helping humans perceive smell. Because the perception of smell is such a large part of taste, foods just don’t taste as good when your nose is plugged up when you have a cold.
ARE TERPENES SAFE?
Terpenes can be safe if used and diluted properly.
Our terpenes are of an EXTREMELY high purity. This is important when considering why they are labeled with such insane warnings such as “do not inhale” or “do not ingest”.
When in this pure of a form, terpenes ARE DANGEROUS and must be handled with the utmost care for your own safety, BUT once diluted properly, they can be safe to ingest, smell, or eat.
Contact your doctor before attempting to add anything to or on to your body. At very high concentrations, not seen normally, they can irritate the skin and mucosa, as well as the gastrointestinal system. Look up the material safety and data sheet for specific terpenes before handling them.
