Humulene emits a slightly bitter, woody aroma that is often reminiscent of hops. Strains known for their content of Humulene include Thin Mint, Chemdawg 91, and Sherbert. Isolated Humulene can be naturally sourced from hops (Humulus lupulus), sage (Salvia officinalis), japanese spicebush (Lindera obtusiloba), ginseng, spearmint (Mentha spicata), ginger (Zingiber officinale), and the Chinese laurel (Antidesma bunius). Humulene has been used as a topical to relieve inflammation and pain. Studies have indicated that the anti-inflammatory effect of Humulene may be comparable to that of some steroid alternatives. It has been widely acknowledged that Humulene works in similar fashion to cannabinoid THCV in the suppression of appetite.
