Myrcene is an earthy, citrusy terpene with an aroma suggestive of hops, cloves, and tropical fruits. Nuances of mint and mango are often detected in Myrcene’s strong fragrance. Strains known for their content of Myrcene include Phantom OG, Afghani, Bubble Gum, White Widow, Skunk #1, El Nino, Himalyan Gold, and Pure Kush. Isolated Myrcene can be naturally sourced from hops (Humulus lupulus), thyme (Thymus vulgaris), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), mangoes (Mangifera indica), basil (Ocimum basilicum), and bay laurel leaves (Laurus nobilis). Myrcene is the most prevalent terpene naturally found in most varieties of cannabis. The cannabinoid THC works synergistically with Myrcene to create a stronger experience. Myrcene impacts the permeability of cells in the brain, increasing the absorption of THC (and other terpenes). Myrcene can be used to promote sedation, muscle relaxation, restful sleeping. Myrcene displays powerful pain-relieving properties, along with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits. This has lead to the suggestion that Myrcene may have the potential to act as an alternate to some aspirin-like pharmaceuticals.

Terpenes 101

What are they used for?

While isolated terpenes have many diverse applications, they are primarily used for product development and formulations. Because of their high purity, they can be used to create custom terpene blends to be added to other extracts, tinctures, edibles, topicals and much more.

Not only do terpenes create the aroma of the plants but they also contribute to the therapeutic properties. By adding specific terpenes, you can achieve specific effects from your products such as uplifting, calming, pain relief, etc.

Full spectrum terpene blends create synergistic effects that are often referred to as the entourage effect. Other companies sell premixed formulas that lack transparency and prevent creating custom blends. If you’re looking to create proprietary terpene blends, purchasing isolated terpenes is the only solution.

How do I use them?

Our terpenes can be used in many different product types such as concentrates, edibles, tinctures, topicals but they must be diluted to the appropriate concentrations. For most applications, a 1-3% concentration by volume is adequate but can vary depending on the terpene blend and desired effects. Certain terpenes are more potent than others and they must be handled with care. When using isolated terpenes be sure to use the appropriate skin protection, eye protection and operate in a well ventilated area.

Where do your terpenes come from?

Our terpenes are derived from many different, all natural sources. There are over 30,000 terpenes in nature and they are not unique to only one species of plant.

For example, alpha pinene is the most prevalent terpene and can be found in thousands of different plants. The molecules themselves are identical no matter what plant they come from. Some people argue about the importance of the source of the terpenes but once the molecules are isolated, there is virtually no difference.

High purity warning labels

There are extensive warning labels on our products because they can be dangerous at high purities. Each terpene has different properties and needs to be handled accordingly. With the proper dilution, our terpenes can be used in many different applications. A similar example is nicotine. Nicotine at high concentrations can be fatal but once diluted, it can be used in many ways (inhaled, sublingual, etc). We simply ask that you respect the high purity compounds and handle them in accordance with their MSDS sheets available here..

How should I dilute them?

Terpenes mix well with other plant extracts, concentrates and oils. You can also dilute them with coconut oil, PG, PEG and more. Terpenes will homogenize with agitation and can be sped up by applying low heat. They are not water soluble so they must be diluted with other oils unless you use an emulsifying agent such as sunflower lecithin. For most applications, a 1-3% concentration by volume is adequate but can vary depending on the terpene blend and desired effects.

If you see terpenes for sale somewhere else that does not show these "scary" warnings, one of two things is occurring:

1) The product is NOT high enough purity to warrant a legal warning (when diluted, terpenes are safe enough to ingest and do not need warnings)

2) The company is in violation by not displaying the proper safety information to you. Proceed at your own risk!
