At True Terpenes, we enjoy educating our clients on our terpenes and their benefits. We pride ourselves on offering the best product and the most knowledge. Whether you are hunting for a mood-boosting terpene to guide you through your day or one to help you settle in and relax at night, we can assist. That’s why we would like to take time today to share a little about our Beta Caryophyllene terpene and what it may be able to do for you!

Beta Caryophyllene

This terpene is easily identified through its strong, spicy and sweet scent. With a hint of clove and wood undertones, Beta Caryophyllene is one of our most popular terpenes. Found in black pepper, black caraway, cloves, hops, basil, and oregano, Beta-Caryophyllene has a distinct scent that even new terpene fans can recognize. It is also the only phytocannabinoid that is not found in the cannabis genus.

Why does this matter? Beta Caryophyllene is able to suppress pain by binding and activating cannabinoid receptors. To put this more simply, this terpene acts just like a cannabinoid! Multiple studies have found that oral administration of Beta Caryophyllene can help with pain and lower levels of inflammation—all without building up a tolerance. This makes Beta Caryophyllene a possible relief option for those who struggle with chronic, debilitating pain. As an extra perk, Beta Caryophyllene is also antimicrobial and can effectively kill both bacteria and fungus.

Beta Caryophyllene Research

Pain relief: Researchers have studied the analgesic effects of Beta Caryophyllene in both rabbits and rats. In these studies, they found that both animals experienced reduced inflammation. Also, there were no signs of tolerance build up at all, even after prolonged treatment periods.

Antioxidant: Beta Caryophyllene can actually inhibit lipid peroxidation, and it was found to fight back against hydroxyl radicals and superoxide anion.

Anti-inflammatory: One study showed that Beta Caryophyllene actually assisted with inflammation in kidney cells. It also lowered oxidative and nitrative stress levels.

Gastric-protective: Beta Caryophyllene can help decrease gastric mucosal injuries that are caused by necrotizing agents. However, it does not affect gastric acid and pepsin secretion. This is notable because anti-inflammatories, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, do cause gastric mucosal damage.
